Unconventional Leadership: A Principles-Based Approach for Project Environments

Frameworks, processes, and best practices matter, but they rarely explain why standards slip, decisions drift, or teams burn out when urgency takes over. In today’s project environments, leadership is revealed not in plans or titles, but in behavior.  In this webinar, Philip Diab introduces Unconventional Leadership: a principles-based approach designed for real project conditions. Grounded in lived experience and aligned with the PMBOK Guide’s evolution, the session reframes leadership as observable behavior shaped by values, skills, and judgment, not templates, heroics, or rigid frameworks.

 Participants will explore five core leadership principles, examine how excellence quietly erodes under pressure, and learn how project leaders and PMOs can reinforce clarity, consistency, and delivery when it matters most. This is not a methodology walkthrough. It’s a candid, practical conversation about how leadership actually works in complex project environments and how to practice it intentionally.

Speaker Bio: 

Philip Diab is a global transformation executive, PMO champion, and a long-time advocate for the project management profession. Over a career spanning nearly three decades, he has served in executive and senior leadership roles, leading complex, high-stakes initiatives across industries and geographies and working to turn strategy into execution.

Philip is the former Chair of the Project Management Institute (PMI) Board of Directors and has been deeply involved in the evolution of the profession, from standards and thought leadership to global community engagement. He is a PMI Fellow and a certified PMP.
